What kind of person could you be if you'd opened to your history and past without judgement?
What are systemic constellations?
Constellations are a simple, brief and solutions-focused methodology that can be used to investigate and resolve issues that seem resistant to change. Many of us meet significant difficulties in our lives. Sometimes the situation is simply ‘stuck' and despite our best efforts we can't seem to find a solution. We try looking at the issue from different angles, consulting experts and trying out different alternatives. And yet there is no resolution. Even with the best use of our analytical skills, intuition and creativity, it is not always possible to locate the core of the issue and solve the problem. It may require a different approach to shift perspective…
While traditional therapies typically focus only on the client, the Constellation approach works with the whole picture of the individual. The systemic approach considers that you are an individual who belongs to a range of different groups or ‘systems’. These ‘systems’ may be your current family or your family of origin, your body system – ie your health issues, your workplace or even the environment in which you live. Therefore, when looking at your specific issue, we will look at the systems in which you are immersed, and where the situation is taking place. As you are one part of the whole picture, the way you experience and operate within the wider system is key to observe in order to find a new perspective on the challenges you are facing. A problem is always co-created, and as humans we are social beings that create connections, so when looking at any problem you are experiencing it is important to look at your system, at your patterns of connections. This allows you to open up the view of the issue to a wider context.
The Systemic Constellations methodology uses spatial representation of the key elements of your proposed topic, so you can literally see before your very eyes a three-dimensional visual living map of previously unseen and unimagined elements and their patterns of connection.
The Constellation method can be used to help you resolve your issue without the need for the physical presence of other people who may be involved. The change happening in your inner world helps implement the change in the external world around you.

The systemic constellations approach can serve different needs. While many Constellations are set up to explore deep problems, they also serve people who are confronted with difficult choices, those might be issues around personal direction, career or relationships. Constellations can help with this decision-making by giving you the unique chance to observe representatives actually embodying the choices in question. The Constellation process allows the hidden dynamics and entanglements of the system to be revealed and offers deep insights, enabling you to explore possible ways forward and leading to resolution. Movements made in the Constellation not only address the particular issue, but actually strengthen you as an individual, and the wider system itself.
What happens in a Constellation Workshop?
A Constellation workshop provides an opportunity to explore your own issues in a safe, confidential environment. In Constellations work a ‘client’ is referred to as the ‘issue-holder’. Each workshop will offer the issue-Holders a chance to work while all other participants are invited to take part as 'representatives'. The process unfolds via an initial interview with Edna, in which the issue-holder gives a simple description of their situation, and what they wish to be different in their life. Edna will guide the issue holder to clarify their issue and will later invite the Issue-Holder to choose people from the circle to represent relevant elements under consideration. An element might be an individual person, a group, or even an abstract concept. The Issue-Holder then places the representatives in relationship to each other in the centre of the circle – this configuration is a Constellation – which provides a ‘living map’ of the interconnected issues – a map which is often different from our mental pictures, family myths or agreed stories –. The Issue-Holder may then sit down to observe or may be asked to be part of the constellation straight away. From this map Edna will observe the process in order to reveal any blockages, enabling the Issue-Holder to move forward towards a resolution of their issue or a better insight around the issue.
Witnessing and serving as a representative or resource in other people’s constellations often touches us in a deep and healing way. Being a representative in other people’s constellation is often a deeply moving experience in which there is great learning. Workshop participants often report experiencing profound insights into their own lives, by simply witnessing the process, regardless of how they choose to take part, as Issue Holders, Representing or simply witnessing.
This ‘new view’ of your life, which includes trans-generational influences, can help you to find your own place within all the groups to which you belong. A Constellation provides an opening for a positive life shift and presents ways for deep healing processes to occur.
Do I need to have any knowledge or experience of constellation work to attend a workshop?
No – absolutely not. Each group will almost certainly have some experienced participants and some absolute beginners. You may come to Edna's workshop without any prior preparation, or even understanding of the work. Be assured, that Edna will be guide through the day and by the end will feel as if you have been using this method for years.
Couples & Family Work It is useful (but not necessary) for couples to attend a workshop together. The important issue may lie in the current situation or in the family of origin of one or the other members of the couple. It is important you contact Edna and give a little explanation if you are intending to work on an issue that involves your partner if he/she is not going to be present. Edna will explain you the process and what you can expect from the Constellation.
One-one sessions Edna also offers One-to-one systemic coaching sessions in person or via Skype, for those who might prefer not to work in a group setting. This can be a very useful alternative to workshops and a powerful form of short-term therapy and complementary to other ongoing psychotherapeutic, spiritual or personal development work..Using a variety of media to explore the family dynamic. Effective change can be made in a small number of sessions.

Business and Organizational Constellations Systemic Constellations can also be used in a business or organizational setting: The Constellations methodology is a powerful diagnostic tool to recognize what issues might be affecting the problem you, your team or company are facing right now. Through the process we can make visual what is out of order or alignment and needs attention in order to bring clarity to the situation as well as a deep understanding of the actions that need to be taken. The method could also be very beneficial in order to evaluate the consequences of a decision, to clarify the steps toward a successful project, or to manage change within a company. Edna runs regular Family Constellation Workshops and Systemic Coaching for Leaders and teams in London.
Constellations for Creative people The Constellation method can also be used in order to support the creative process. If you are an artist and you need inspiration, a new input or perspective, a better insight around your project or even assistance with alignment to your own life purpose and relationship to the emergent future, Constellations could be a great resource. You could either come for one-to-one sessions or come to a workshop.

Why Does This Work ? Scientific research shows that the experiences of your ancestors can determine your behavior today, and affect future generations. This means that traumatic experience alters the genetic structure and create unseen conditionings that could then be passed to future generations. The Systemic approach can expose these issues that emerge from your family system, providing a safe and confidential space and begin your healing process.
The Systemic constellations approach was developed by the German philosopher and psychotherapist Bert Hellinger. Edna Dumas is a London and West London based Systemic Constellations practitioner who works in both English and Spanish. Edna has trained in Family Constellations in Germany at the Hellinger Institute and in London at the Centre for Systemic Constellations. Edna has also trained for Organizational Systemic Coaching with the best pioneers in this area.
